It is the dark melodramas of crime and corruption. It a psychologically dark as well as it is an intricate and artificial visual style. Hardboiled crime fiction book and L’sObessione (Visconti 1942) film are great example of it. Key writers of this genre are Raymond Chandler, James M. Cain and Dashiell Hammett.
